Search La Porte Dockets

Start your La Porte docket search by sorting out what kind of matter you have. The city runs no municipal court of its own. Cases that begin in La Porte land in the LaPorte County courts and Indiana's statewide case system, while city parking tickets move through a separate administrative route. Know whether you are after a Superior Court case, a parking citation, or a police record before you search. Pick the right lane and the court events and settings show up clearly, instead of mistaking a city payment page for an actual court docket.

La Porte Court Codes

Two codes point to the courts at 813 Lincolnway. 46C01 marks LaPorte Circuit Court, and 46D03 marks LaPorte Superior Court 3. That code sits near the front of an Indiana cause number, and it tells you which court actually keeps the docket.

46C01: Circuit Court, including assigned felony, family, and juvenile work.

46D03: Superior Court 3, including civil, small-claims, misdemeanor, and traffic work.

CCS: The chronological case summary, or dated list of court events.

When the code is unknown, search every LaPorte County court instead of guessing. A La Porte filing can still land elsewhere under county allocation rules. The code in the result keeps things straight with the Michigan City complex, about 13 miles away.

La Porte Trial Court Basics

No La Porte municipal court shows up in the current Indiana court directory. It is absent from the Odyssey list too. The city instead hosts LaPorte Circuit Court and Superior Court 3. Circuit Judge Julianne Havens serves with Magistrates Pamela Munsey and Erika Stallworth. Judge Jeffrey L. Thorne leads Superior Court 3. Those names can confirm a docket result, though the cause number remains the safest identifier.

Both courts sit at 813 Lincolnway, La Porte, IN 46350. The elected clerk's public counter is in Suite 105. The directory lists 219-326-6808, and county pages add court and staff extensions. General weekday access runs 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Superior Court 3, though, posts split staff availability. Call ahead on a late visit and ask which counter handles your cause number.

Court Dates and Settings in La Porte

MyCase can list scheduled events in the case summary. Always read the newest entry, since a continuance, reset, or amended notice may replace an earlier date. A motion to continue moves nothing by itself. The court has to act, and the signed order or later CCS entry controls.

DateThe current hearing date shown by the latest setting or order
TimeThe listed start time, which may be a court call rather than an individual slot
CourtroomThe room, court code, or remote designation
JudgeThe assigned judge or magistrate when displayed
Setting TypeCriminal call, pretrial, motion, status, trial, or other event

Superior Court 3 sends its public civil and criminal streams to Indiana Court Streams. Treat that service as live viewing only, not a recording or a searchable calendar archive. If MyCase clashes with a notice, or a date just changed, call the named court.

La Porte City Hall Is Separate

La Porte City Hall sits at 801 Michigan Avenue. The county courts and clerk sit at 813 Lincolnway. The two are close, yet their records stay separate. City Hall handles municipal services and the clerk-treasurer parking-payment route. It keeps no Circuit Court or Superior Court 3 chronological case summaries.

Choose by record type. Use the city clerk-treasurer route for a city parking payment. Use MyCase or the county clerk for a filed case, hearing, order, or certified court copy.

A payment confirmation proves only an administrative transaction, not a court judgment. A county docket result, by contrast, carries a cause number and court code.

Where La Porte Cases Go

Nothing from La Porte moves through a municipal court, because none is listed. County criminal, civil, family, probate, and traffic filings go straight into one of LaPorte County's five general-jurisdiction courts under local allocation rules. When the assigned court is unknown, a countywide MyCase search works best for the La Porte court docket.

Docket flow: La Porte incident or filing › LaPorte County Courts › LaPorte Circuit Court or assigned Superior Court › Court of Appeals of Indiana

The Circuit Court is the constitutional primary trial court. It is not the only county docket, though. Circuit Court and Superior Court 3 are the local La Porte access points. Transfers and consolidated matters can shift the assigned court. So follow the court code in the latest result. Then check the LaPorte County case lookup for countywide search-field details.

Traffic Tickets in La Porte

Search a county traffic or infraction case in MyCase by citation number or party name. Check whether the result carries 46D03, 46D04, or another county code. Superior Court 3 posts traffic contacts at 219-326-6808 Ext. 2243 or 2447. If nothing comes back, use the court named on the ticket. Ask the clerk there to verify the filing.

The La Porte clerk-treasurer page links to ViewPoint Cloud for city parking-ticket payments. It publishes no court docket, case events, judge field, calendar, or certified-copy option. A city payment result is not a Superior Court record. For filed cases in more depth, see the county traffic ticket page.

La Porte Court Record Access Rules

Indiana Access Rule 4 begins from a simple premise. Court records are open to the public. Access Rule 5 then carves out exceptions, redacting or excluding entire cases and records that fall into protected categories. Confidential juvenile matters, protected-person data, medical and treatment records, and anything sealed by law or court order all sit outside ordinary access. So a restricted case may never appear on MyCase. Even a public case can flag a document as unavailable while hiding its contents from view.

Key rules:

Indiana Access Rule 4 sets the general public-access presumption.

Indiana Access Rule 5 identifies excluded cases, confidential records, and required redactions.

Indiana Access to Public Records Act, Indiana Code 5-14-3 supplies the public inspection framework, subject to court rules and exemptions.

You do not need a MyCase account for ordinary public access. Party and attorney logins can unlock extra material, but only within the limits the access rules allow. One habit is worth keeping: confirm any date, disposition, balance, or copy with the clerk who issued it.

La Porte Payment Route Limits

The city payment link covers parking payments and nothing more. The official source does not spell out its public search fields. Do not count on it to find a moving violation, a court date, a judgment, or a county case.

If a parking matter turns into a filed case, MyCase will show which court holds it. Until that point, city records and county records stay in separate systems.

La Porte Clerk Copy Route

Heather Stevens serves as records custodian for La Porte County. She is the elected Clerk of the Circuit Court. Visit at 813 Lincolnway, Suite 105, La Porte, IN 46350. You can also call 219-326-6808 Ext. 2471 for the clerk route. Four clerk offices support five county courts. So give staff the cause number and assigned court before asking where to go. MyCase is only a viewing layer. The official record lives with the clerk. When an event shows no linked document, request it from the office that maintains the file. Include the court, cause number, case caption, event or filing date, exact document, copy type, and your contact details. The county offers no standard certified-copy form, no posted per-page fee, and no processing-time promise. Ask staff directly for current pricing, payment methods, and delivery. Transcripts travel a different route. Contact the court reporter with the name or caption. Include the cause number, hearing date, and callback number. The reporter sets the per-page cost. A transcript is not the same thing as the clerk's chronological case summary.

La Porte Court Work Compared

The two La Porte courts do different work. Circuit Court serves as the constitutional trial court. It publishes felony, family, juvenile, School Court, Family Recovery Court, and Juvenile Wellness Court services. Superior Court 3 handles civil claims, small claims, misdemeanors, and traffic. It also posts fee, manual, and public-stream information. So the vague label "county court" will not get a record request very far. Name the specific court.

LaPorte Circuit Court46C01Assigned felony, family, and juvenile matters
LaPorte Superior Court 346D03Civil, small claims, misdemeanor, and traffic matters

Allocation rules can send a case somewhere unexpected or transfer it later. When the court is uncertain, search countywide first. Then let the court code in the result set your route. Not everything inside city limits belongs at Lincolnway.

La Porte Docket Geography

The 2020 Census put 22,471 residents in La Porte, making it the second of the county's two incorporated cities. Court geography ignores that ranking. La Porte hosts the Circuit Court and Superior Court 3, while Michigan City hosts three Superior Courts.

La Porte takes its name from the French phrase for "the door." MyCase works as a practical doorway for a current case search. The court code in the result then points you to the right counter, calendar contact, and certified-record custodian.
